5 Potential Methods to Monetize Your Blog

A blog is more than just a platform to express yourself. Sure, you might approach blogging as a means to share your ideas with others, but it does not mean that you cannot make more out of your website.

Perhaps the best example of making more out of your blog is by monetizing it. Naturally, there are different monetization methods, and it is necessary to pick one that fits your blog the most. At the same time, it is common to have multiple monetization methods on blogs.

To get a better idea of how you can monetize a blog, consider the methods and tips mentioned below. You are bound to find at least one or two methods suitable for your website.

Brand Merchandise

It would not be a stretch to consider blogs as brands, particularly when there is a notable personality behind content curation.

Having said that, you do not need to associate a blog with a specific person to make money selling custom merchandise.

So long as there are enough readers who want to support you, expect to profit from custom merchandise. You can hire designers to create varsity jackets, t-shirts, hoodies, pillows, face masks, and other print-on-demand products that you can sell in one of the available marketplaces.

Of course, instead of hiring a professional designer, you can also try to take on the task yourself, but unless you know what you are doing, the odds are that such an approach will fail.

To redirect blog readers to the merchandise store, use your social media pages. Also, add a separate section on the site itself to let the visitors know that they can now support the blog by purchasing custom merchandise.

Guest Posts

Many site owners sell guest posts. The interest exists because there is a high demand for link building. A URL on a good website helps with ranking on search engines, not to mention the direct traffic coming from a published guest post with a link.

The tricky part about selling guest posts and link insertions is that you need to distinguish which links and articles are a good fit for your website and which are not.

Be sure to check the articles for plagiarism, AI generation, and overall quality. You do not want to jeopardize your blog just to make some money, right? Also, as a rule of thumb, you want to stay away from crypto, CBD, and other shady links.

Affiliate marketing has been around for a while, but it seems like the method is not as popular as it was before. It feels like people are sticking to other money-making methods, such as dropshipping.

Nevertheless, affiliate links still offer a good opportunity to make money on a blog. You can simply insert affiliate links in the already published articles on your website. Or, you can create relatively small ad banners that redirect people to an affiliate landing page.

One mistake to avoid with this method is that you do not want to spam too many affiliate links throughout your content. Obvious attempts to monetize articles will backfire because spammy promotional links put off readers.

A link here and there is enough. Similar to how you do not want to damage your blog with poor content from guest submissions, you also do not want to disregard all your hard work before by putting affiliate links everywhere you can.

Ad Networks

Running ads on a website does not sound too appealing because so many people are using ad blockers on their internet browsers. The constant spam and interruptions ruin one’s browsing experience, so such extensions are understandable.

Now, this does not mean that absolutely everyone has an ad blocker installed. Moreover, you do not need to be super pushy with your ads on a blog. A couple of ads that are not over the nose should be fine, especially if they do not slow down the website’s loading speed.

You can treat ads as an extra method to make a little bit of money from your side. Be sure to test multiple ad networks and setups to see the performances and determine what would be the optimal choice.

Digital Products

If you were to go through various established blogs, you would likely notice many of them promoting various digital goods, such as ebooks or webinars.

Digital products work as a monetization method because they offer your readers value. The content you do not publish on the website can be used for an ebook instead.

It is also not that uncommon to have collaborations with other content creators. As a blog owner, you do not need to be the one who creates digital goods. No, other people can be authors. However, if you plan to promote digital goods created by another person, a quality check is a must.
