Gordon James Ramsay was born on 8 November 1966 in Johnston, Renfrewshire, Scotland.  When he was five years old, his family moved to England and he grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon.  He is the second of four children. 

His family moved constantly when he was a child due to his father’s aspirations and professional failures.  His father was sometimes a violent alcoholic and a baboon.
