Later, Terry proceeded to Sheldon High School, where he won two state championships and one runner-up finish. Terry had a high school record of 110-10, including a 34-0 record in 1986.

The next level of Brands’ wrestling career was at the University of Lowa, where he won NCAA titles in 1990 and 1992, weighing 126 pounds.
